This song is dedicated to my nephew, Will and my mother in law, Lila. Apparently, whenever Lila says no to Will, he replies with, “You’re bad!”. It is frustrating when people won’t let us have what we want.
I went a little overboard with the recording. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.
You’re Bad! by Willy Grigg
I don’t want to take a nap, I’m not tired, let me go
I want to play, don’t make me stop
Don’t you tell me no, no, no
You’re bad, you’re bad, so bad I had to say it twice
You’re bad, you’re bad, and I don’t think you’re very nice
I want that candy, let me have it
Let me have that doughnut hole
I won’t wait ‘til after supper
Don’t you tell me no, no, no
I want to run, I want to jump
I want to dance a do-si-do
I want to yell and punch my brother
Don’t you tell me no, no, no
I wrote the lyrics while sitting in Christ Presbyterian Church near Greenville, NC, October 5, 2014.
The lyrics are below for those who like to sing along.
Isn’t It Convenient? by Willy Grigg 8/9/14-9/12/14
I love the Lord and He love me, we’ve got it all worked out
I’ve read his holy scriptures, I know what he’s about
His ways are not mysterious they’re there for all to see
And isn’t it convenient, God agrees with me
Everyone should have a gun, nobody’s taking mine
God only said “Thou shalt not” once and “kill” a dozen times
And “Turn the other cheek” – he meant that metaphorically
And isn’t it convenient, God agrees with me
There’s compassion in my heart / for any person who doesn’t agree
They’ll have time to think about it / while they burn in hell / for all eternity
I believe each embryo has an eternal soul
We shouldn’t tamper with it, we should shun all birth control
A soul that’s born in darkness is one more he can set free
And isn’t it convenient, God agrees with me
I’ll believe what I believe don’t tell me otherwise
Your science-based reality is just a pack of lies
I take my orders from above, I hear them perfectly (or – they’re clear as clear can be)
And isn’t it convenient that God agrees with me
I need to work on this recording – the vocal, ending, mix could all be better. But who knows when that’ll happen?
I Want To Be A Pirate by Willy Grigg 7/6/14
I want to be a pirate, and go out on the sea
And sail out to an island, and bring it to it’s knees
Terrorize the people / take everything we need
We’ll raise a pint to our friends
We’ll leave the others to bleed
I want to be a pirate, man, life would be a dream
I wouldn’t have a mortgage, or a nine-to-five routine
I wouldn’t take no lip from any beardless, little punk
I’d be fearless, I’d be reckless, I’d be dangerous and drunk
I want to be a pirate, I’d have a lot of fun
I’d answer any questions with my dagger and my gun
And never knowing when it’s gonna fade to black
If it’s a hangman’s noose or a knife in my back
I wanna be a pirate, sign me up I’m ready to play
I wanna be a pirate, pick me up and take me away
I wanna be a pirate, And sail into the deep abyss
I wanna be a pirate, Six men dancing on a dead man’s chest
I wanna be a pirate, Look out baby, cause here I come
I wanna be a pirate, Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum
This is a song I wrote and recorded somewhere around 2002-2004. I’m posting it in response to a request from Kyle – thanks for asking!
This is my take on people who loudly proclaim themselves Christian and yet are mean and judgmental.
from Matthew 25
42 I was hungry but you would not feed me, thirsty but you would not give me a drink; 43 I was a stranger but you would not welcome me in your homes, naked but you would not clothe me; I was sick and in prison but you would not take care of me.’ 44 Then they will answer him, ‘When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and we would not help you?’ 45 The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you refused to help one of these least important ones, you refused to help me.’
Jesus Loves You by Willy Grigg
[C]Jesus loves the Communists
[F]Jesus loves the [C]pacifists
He [F]even loves the [C]terr[C/B]or[A]ists
[D]Why [G7]don’t [C]you?
[C]Jesus loves the fags & dykes
[F]Jesus loves the [C]sodomites
He [F]cares about our [C]hu[C/B]man [A]rights
[D]why [G7]don’t [C]you?
[F]You’d put down without regret
[Fm]All those who might be a threat
[C]Anyone who hinders or frustrates you
[F]But Jesus said to turn your cheek
[Fm]Feed the poor, defend the weak
And [C]even love [A7]people who [D7]hate you [G7]
[C]Jesus loves the drunken boozers
[F]Jesus loves the [C]drug abusers
[F]He forgives the [C]fil[C/B]thy [A7]losers
[D]Why [G]don’t [C]you?
[C]You say that Jesus is your friend
[F]You say your soul is [C]in his hand
But, [F]he would never [C]kill [C/B]a [A]man
[D]WHY [G7]DO [C]YOU?
I wrote this song 7/2/14, recorded it the morning of 7/3/14. I was thinking of the precious things that need to be protected. Sorry about the bad ending, I need to remix it and fade it out – I’ll try to get a new mix up sometime.
Sacred Beauty by Willy Grigg 7/2/14
[A] Sacred water / Sacred sky
Sacred [E] green things / Sacred [A] life
May all these things / Be [D] preserved
May you [A] care for them [E] like they’re your [A] own
[A] Sacred vision / Sacred dove
Sacred [E] body / Sacred [A] love
May all these things / Be [D] preserved
May you [A] care for them [E] like they’re your [A] own
[A] Sacred beauty / You know it was
Put into [E] your hands / As a Sacred [A] trust
May all these things / Be [D] preserved
May you [A] care for them [E] like they’re your [A] own
Here’s a new song I wrote and recorded 7/2/14. I was thinking about writing a John Jacobs Niles song. A sad, lonely, quivering, spooky folk song. I got this instead.
Loves Me The Same by Willy Grigg 7/2/14
|[Bm] [A/C#][D] | [D] |
I [A]gave my love a [D]locket, to [Bm] remind her what I [A] look like
And [E] I inscribed it [F#m] to her, in [A] case she forgets my [E]name
[E] I told her that I [F#m] loved her, like [A] grass, like wind, like [DMaj7]starlight
But [Bm] I don’t [A/C#] think my [D] love
[Bm] I don’t [A/C#] think my [D] love
[Bm] I don’t [A/C#] think my [D] love
Loves [E] me the [A] same
I [A]took my love a [D] walking, though she was [Bm]several feet in [A] front of me
She [E] couldn’t hear me [F#m] talking, I [A] don’t know who’s to [E] blame
I love her like a [F#m] drowning man, holding [A] on for all I’m [DMaj7] worth
But [Bm] I don’t [A/C#] think my [D] love
[Bm] I don’t [A/C#] think my [D] love
[Bm] I don’t [A/C#] think my [D] love
Loves [E] me the [A] same
I know you must have some good points
Maybe you display them while I’m not around
All I see is expressed, is selfishness
And I’m so sorry if I don’t love you
I know some people think you’re alright
I’ve heard them say it, but I don’t know why
It’s a one way track, there’s no giving back
And I’m so sorry if I don’t love you
I’m glad that someone loves you
I’m glad there’s somebody who tries
They’ve learned to live with your rudeness
They’re a much better person than I
You’re just another living creature
Wanting love and comfort like all creatures do
If I act unkind, the fault’s all mine
And I’m so sorry if I don’t love you
Written and recorded February 9, 2014, finished June 1, 2014.
Yesterday, I was fortunate to have an afternoon to work on music. I wrote and recorded this song.
Here’s the lyrics for those interested in that sort of thing…
The Light by Willy Grigg (1/26/2014)
We want to see the light
We’re searching for the light
But when we think we’ve found it
We’ve lost our sight
We want to see the light
We’re searching for the llight
It’s never quite as simple
As black and white
There’s those who think the light was lost
But left behind a glow
They think the truth is only found
In books from long ago
And some who think the light is found
In loving hearts and minds
They get a lift connecting with
Others of their kind
And light is found in beauty
Light is found in art
Light is found in literature
And written in your heart
Light is found in forests dark
A mountain’s bubbling stream
It’s there inside a grain of sand
And scattered in between
Here’s a song about I wrote about how very happy I am in my relationship with my wife, Jenny. She is a very kind, understanding, thoughtful, intelligent, loving person and I am very fortunate to have her as my partner in life!
